Manufacturing The Delaire Sunrise

The shape and cutting style chosen for the Delaire Sunriset is a square emerald cut. By having a great deal of depth available for this shape and cutting style Mr. Bianco was able to retain maximum weight from the original well-formed octahedral crystal weighing 221.81 ct. The decision to fashion the rough into a step cut is a testament to the perceived depth of color in the original crystal. While a step cut would allow Mr. Bianco to retain weight, it does not collect and intensify the face-up color appearance as readily as other modified brilliant cutting styles. Therefore, achieving evenly distributed, strong color in the finished stone is a challenge even when such color is indicated in the rough.

The success of this decision can be seen in the final result of a fancy Vivid grade. As mentioned previously, GIA knows of no larger Fancy Viivid yellow diamond fashioned as a square emerald cut at this time. That such an extraordinarily unusual choice for the shape and cut was made to speaks to the confidence of Mr. Bianco. Only a man who had spent a lifetime honing the skills and knowledge necessary to plan and execute the difficult fashioning process would have allowed such an unusual and challenging selection.
